 Project Noah's Ark - 2009

Project Noah's Ark 2009 comes in two parts.  Part One was the construction of a plastic model of one concept of Noah's Ark.  Shipbuilder Matt H. under the direction of Youth Minister Diann H., and with some of her help, built the model (seen in some of the pics below).  Part Two was the layout of an outline of the basic dimensions of the ark as given in Genesis 6:15, New International Version.  This outline was laid out on Berea Christian Church and Berea Cemetery Association property.  The outline measures 450 feet in length and 75 feet in width. It covers and crosses our drive approach to the church parking lot.  Cars pass through the 75 foot width.  A single 45 foot line holding a number of blue stars and smiley face balloons to give some sense of the height of the ark.  (If the wind does not cooperate with the balloons, see the Pin Oak at the north left-center "in" the ark for an approximation.  The tree is 15-20 feet shorter than the height of the ark. )  Pictures below were taken with low attendance (It was in the thirties that morning.  Besides, Noah probably didn't have a lot help either.)  The kids who participated learned from this project.  Matt's presentation to the Adult C. E. class was excellent.  We all learned.  Thanks to Diann, Annie, and Mary who helped with balloons this morning.  (Deb P., the third member of the "Terrific Trio" held the fort in case toddlers arrived.)  Thanks to Butch and Diann for the outline on the property.  Thanks to the kids who attended, in cold weather, and had as much fun as only kids can have in that cold.

Right: Camera is at north end of the "Ark."  Look hard and see Annie and the P.S.D.T. 450 feet away.
See where the two patches of road "white" come together.  Note also the "height" tree, center.  The
tree, however, is about 15-20 feet shorter than the ark's 45 feet.

Noah had a crew of one (God) and eight passengers.
We had eight on this project if you count the guy
 taking pictures.

Matt's presentation of the plastic model and his descriptive narrative of the story of the Ark followed the outside work.  A few more balloons will be added later to complete the outline.  (Local deer damaged the initial layout of the ark.  We expect more damage by these ungrateful deer.  They shouldn't have done that.  After all, their ancestors were on that ark!)

Pics below show Matt in his presentation and some of his rapt students.  They learned a thing or two also.  Thanks, Matt.

Look closely at the faces.  See the light dawning?  You have the makings
of a good teacher, Matt.  Great job!
